Fashion is cyclical.............70's are back and hanging on for another year

Fashion is cyclical and the 70's revival is here for another year............who knows how long it may stay.  The old silhouettes - flares and flouncy sleeves and detailing - fringe and embroidery.............. have returned.

This blouse is a perfect example of tweaking the 70's inspired design.

The braided trim ............well, what can I say............ I'm quite sure I sewed the same braid along the bottom of my bell bottom pants in 1972

Earrings are Mexican Silver

Pair this top with skinny jeans, leggings or Chico's Juliet Ankle pants.
I love these pants and have several pairs. Their  sleek pull-on silhouette  eases over every contour.  I love the way they fit.  The  interior elastic waist is so  comfortable and stays up over the hips.
You won't be sorry if you buy a pair.

You can find them here   CLICK

Some 70's silhouettes I want to see return.......

But there are other 70's styles that NEED NOT make a comeback

Trending for winter..............QUILTED SCARVES

Live on the cutting edge of fashion...............
Wear a "puffer scarf" this winter.

It seems the fashion commentators really don't know what to call them......"quilted", "puffy" or "down filled"............ does it really matter?

Those that are filled with down are usually more expensive.  Down is actually the fine feathers that many birds have under their outer feathers.  The down feathers work as insulators.  That is, because air is trapped in their loose airy structure and body heat is kept from escaping.
The down used in clothing usually comes from domestic geese.  The down comes from geese which are killed for their meat.  It is not a common practice to kill birds just to use their down.  There is a process called live plucking which involves plucking the down from a live bird, but this is illegal in the United States and most European countries.

I found some "puffy" scarves for you to check out.  Two of them come as part of the parka.  That explains the high price:

Question:  If bird feathers are so warm, why do birds fly south for the winter ??

Answer:  Most birds migrate to find food, not because they are cold !!

70's inspired tunic top

I was shopping one day admiring the fun 70's inspired dresses.
I loved the 70's
Some of the very best music was written during the 70's
The fashions were free and flowing and feminine with ruffles and billowing sleeves
and wide leg bell bottom pants.

Fashion repeats itself and we now have trending so many of the 70's styles.

So...........there I was admiring the silky knit dresses and reminiscing .....

I'm tall and the dresses are just a little too short for me.

I bought my favorite and cut it off.

A perfect long tunic top !

Loving the sheer sleeve

The Label is MSK
I couldn't find my color (must be sold out), but this is the same dress that I purchased.
Some of you may be lucky enough to be able to wear them as a dress!  Hooray for you!!
Just cut it off and hem for a sassy tunic.

FUR SCARVES ............... Trending for Fall and Winter

A fur scarf is the must have accessory this Fall / Winter Season........Wear it to make a fashion statement or to keep you warm through the bitter winds of winter chill.   Your scarf may be the authentic or the faux depending upon your personal preference or budget.

How to wear them............. you can throw the furry fluff over your shoulder or wrap it tightly around your neck....or anything in between.

Dress it up with your evening gown or little black dress or dress it down with your denim jacket.

I took a fox fur collar from a suit that I had designed a couple of years ago.  I tacked it together to make a circle and plan to wear it with a black sweater and black silk pants as soon as the temperature drops a few degrees.

I found some scarves for you to check out.  These are all faux fur.  The making of faux fur has come a long way.  It's difficult to tell what is real and what is not.

trending..........longer tunic length top

I'm loving the longer length tops that we see trending this Fall.  This pintuck and button placket front tunic is tailored to be both flowing and flattering.  The vintage-inspired line enhances the silhouette giving style savvy attention to detail.  The Bold print makes a statement as the spotlight shines.

The face framing notched neckline is most flattering

The silhouette cut is slightly a-line creating a slim appearance

Add interest to your wardrobe with one of these colorful pieces.

Fabric is 96% rayon and 4% spandex.  Hang to dry

Have you ever shopped Zulily?
It's an online outlet featuring many brands.  I have never been disappointed with anything that I have purchased from them.  Be sure to read the size charts carefully and look at close ups of whatever you purchase.
I am very satisfied with this purchase and feel that I can recommend it to you.  I am wearing a  size medium which is true to size

trending now........ kimono look

I wrote this post before my accident.
I updated the shopping information!!

Hey look at me!
I just bought this loose, flowing silhouette kimono at Target.  A kimono by definition is a loose robe with wide sleeves and side seams (usually).  This wonderful light weight and breezy piece does not have side seams.  A fun little tie under the arm gives it a kimono feel.

The soft rayon georgette floral/geometric print sways in the wind on this blustery day.

I like to just wrap up in it

The striking print is done in eye catching shades of pink, purple and navy.

I am wearing my
Can't say enough good about the way they fit.  They sit just below the natural waistline and the rayon, nylon and spandex blend provide a comfortable stretch and smooth silhouette.

They come in a variety of prints and colors.

I purchased this trend-forward kimono a while ago, but I cannot find it on the Target website.  Nor can I find it under the Xhilaration label.

I think it was made by little elves living high in the peaks of Mt Charleston and dropped inconspicuously  into my shopping cart as I perused the aisles, looking for just the right granola bars!

But I found these other Xhilaration kimonos from Target.

It was easy to find similar examples of this new trend for you to see.  Just click on the picture:

History of Kimonos.
Originally, "kimono" was the Japanese word for clothing. But in more recent years, the word has been used to refer specifically to traditional Japanese clothing.

Here is my Japanese quote:
The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.
  • 木を植えるのに一番良かった時期は20年前だった。 二番目に良い時期は今だ。
  • Ki o ueru no ni ichi-ban yokatta jiki wa ni-jū-nen mae datta. Ni-ban-me ni ii jiki wa ima da.

Back at last................

Seven months ago (March 11) while vacationing in Alaska, I had an accident involving a snow machine.  Here in the lower 48 states, we call them "snow mobiles".  My two friends and I signed up for a half day trip to see and “touch” a glacier.  Wow……….
I bet some of you may have that on your Bucket List!
Our guide assured me that the fact that I had never  ridden a “snow machine”  was not a problem.
The glacier was incredible, but the guide decided to take a trail through the trees on our return at the close of the day.
I tangled with a pine, was air lifted to the hospital after laying in the snow for close to four hours.
It was a tender mercy from the Lord that seconds after my crash, an amazing man ---  coming from the opposite direction having been prompted to take a trail he had never traveled in his hundreds of trips to the glacier ------
came to my aide and never left my side.

A shattered femur, injured knee, broken arm and compound fractured hand…………….
just a bump in the road of life.
Thanks to angel friends and many prayers and a healing body, I am once again “upright” and typing!!

While healing I vowed that this defining moment in my life would NOT turn me into an “old person”.
 I shall wear heels again!
I will climb mountains ………
. And there are malls I have yet to shop!

The thought of blogging about this Ralph Lauren blouse that I had purchased at a great sale price prior to my accident .... kept me going some days.

The flared and gathered peplum just below the waistline create a frilly flounce of soft cotton voile.

I wanted to chose a monochromatic top and pant look.  I found the pant at Chico's (on sale since it is the end of the summer).  They are  the "so slimming"  Serene Cuffed Crops.  The fabric is a Cotton, Spandex blend giving a just right stretchy feel.  There are still some colors available.  Click to see.

But the matching top was sold out.  Hmmmmmmm so I found a dress of the same color that was a "final sale" at Chico's on the internet.
I simply cut the bottom off and I have my coordinating top:

My earrings and buckle ring are Mexican Silver and were purchased in Mexico a few years ago:

As for shoes.................. I will be wearing flats for the next several months.
For now, I just dream of the day when I can put on those heels once again:

These last seven months have given me an insight into the goodness of friends and neighbors and family.   I would not have been able to come home without their loving help.  What a blessing it is to have them in my life.

Life has its challenges.
Life is difficult at times.
Life is short.
But God has assured us that we need not go it alone.
