Once a year, for ten days, Las Vegas becomes "Cowboy" because it is the
National Finals Rodeo
National Finals Rodeo (NFR) started in the Thomas and Mack Center on Thursday, promising to be filled with upsets, thrills, spills and the most exciting rodeo action in the sport’s history.
It’s been a long travel-filled year for the 120 contestants that made it and many more that didn’t. Rodeos across the country have been the stepping stones to getting here.
It is every competitive cowboy's dream to be here competing for both money and fame.
And it is time for me to get out my boots
I am a cowgirl at heart and at this time of year, my heart beats faster than usual. There was a time in my life when we had horses and we would ride out our back gate and across the desert.
The memories of those days shine vividly as I don the boots
First, there are the red dress boots. These are for going out dancin' or wearing with a long swooshy skirt. The Rodeo Queen would wear these!
These are my riding and work boots. Sturdy and tough.
And this is the pair that I recently purchased to wear with jeans
